In Create Plantings, we discuss linking immature plantings back to a source plant or package. Similarly, seeds generated or bred in production can be tied back to their source in Metrc. How is this done? In short, one needs to record the seeds as a package created out of either:
The first step in either case is to create a Seeds item in Metrc:
Note: only weight based items will work if pulling directly from a harvest.

Then, if using an existing package of usable marijuana containing the seeds, such as a harvest lot package, one would:

The seeds package will show the source package and harvest for the seeds for proper chain of custody.
If the seeds are still on the plant, one can harvest – either full or manicure – to create the package of seeds. Use cases for the types of harvests and seed:
More information on the harvest types is available in the Wiki Harvests section.
Choose the correct harvest type for ones situation to create a harvest batch. Then one follows similar steps as above to create a package of seeds from the harvest batch. This ties the seeds to the plant and harvest.

Unlike other categories in Metrc, seeds do not have the ability to be sold as an "each" based multi-pack. When creating the Item there’s no way to indicate in the system how many seeds are in a quantity of one, unlike a multi-pack of pre-rolls where you enter the unit weight of THC. One of the ideas generated by a previous user group, that has never gotten enough votes, is to allow Metrc to be able to count each seed in a multi-pack so producers could create a package of 5 seeds (or any number 10 or less) with a quantity of 1 in Metrc.
Currently you can put 5 seeds into the same physical packaging, but the package tag quantity in Metrc would need to be 5, so the retailer would ring up each physical package in Metrc 5 times. An individual store might have a POS that would automatically mark in Metrc that a single physical package is a quantity of 5 in Metrc, but we don’t know if any have that feature. There is no way with just Metrc to have a package of 5 seeds be a quantity of 1.
